On Saturday, July 25, Anixter Center and Chicago Hearing Society proudly joined advocates, community members, families, and allies for the 23rd Annual Chicago Disability Pride Parade—a celebration of disability, diversity, and inclusion that also honored the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Members, participants, and staff marched together through downtown Chicago, celebrating the strength, resilience, and contributions of people with disabilities.
This year’s parade reflected the mission of the Disability Pride Parade Association:
- To change the way people think about and define disability.
- To break down internalized shame experienced by people with disabilities.
- To celebrate disability as a natural and beautiful part of human diversity.
Beyond the parade route, Anixter Center and Chicago Hearing Society hosted a community resource table at Daley Plaza, connecting with community members and sharing how our services support people at every stage of life. Whether through accessible mental health care, disability services, or programs for individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing, our goal is the same: to help every person build independence, find connection, and thrive in their community.
For our participants, the day was about more than marching—it was about being seen, celebrated, and standing together with a community that believes everyone deserves access, opportunity, and belonging.
As we celebrate Disability Pride Month and the lasting impact of the ADA, we remain committed to building a future where every person can live with dignity, independence, and the support they need to reach their goals.
