Literacy Program

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer tutor with Anixter Center’s Jack Ehrlich Literacy Program! Our literacy program helps adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities gain basic literacy skills in a one-to-one setting. Tutors generally meet their learners at a time and location that is mutually convenient.

Literacy tutors are expected to tutor one hour per week for a minimum of three months. Literacy tutors must complete fifteen hours of free training (12 of those hours can be completed online) and pass a background check prior to starting tutoring.

    Please note there are 12 hours of training available online or in-person, as well as 1 hour of in-person program orientation, 1 hour of in-person shadowing, and 1 hour of in-person training summary and debriefing.
