Housing and Residential Services

Anixter Center provides residential services and support to people with disabilities in a caring, compassionate and competent manner that honors individuals, their abilities and their personal choices.

The Anixter Center Residential Services is a program that manages, maintains, and staffs 14 group residences and maintains 124 units in seven buildings of accessible HUD housing. Residential Services also employs caseworkers who support people with disabilities who are living in their own homes as a preferred option over nursing homes or institutions. In addition, Residential Services offers respite to caregivers in private homes and for staff members serving in their small-group residences.

Over 200 people with mental illness and developmental, physical and sensory disabilities are served annually on Chicago's North Side and in Lake County, Illinois.

Since 1974, Residential Services has recognized the difficulty and disadvantages that people with disabilities face in their pursuit of safe, adapted and adequate housing. In taking action to improve individual housing opportunities, Anixter Center has also addressed the imperative need for people to have a sense of community, ownership and options for involvement in their neighborhoods.

“The one element of our program that really matters to the individuals we serve is that we support their desire to live with dignity.” Jackie Rovner, Director of Residential Services.
