Volunteers are a vital part of the Anixter Center community. By offering their time, wisdom and unique talents, volunteers further the organization's mission: They make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities by helping them to live, learn, work and play in the community.
- Are you looking for a volunteer program that goes beyond serving others and serves some of your needs?
- Are you interested in developing your skills and knowledge by expanding your current experience into areas that intrigue or inspire you?
- Do you want to contribute to a noble effort—for others, and yourself?
Anixter Center offers more than just volunteer positions. It is an opportunity to be part of a vibrant supportive community that also helps volunteers to develop, tune and acquire more knowledge and expertise. This serves to deepen both the volunteer’s professional development and their experience in working with people with disabilities and truly making a positive impact.
The structure of our volunteer program is to create win/win situations for Anixter Center, for the clients we serve and for you—the volunteers that contribute in ways we cannot even begin to measure.
Heather and Jose meet weekly at the Harold Washington Library to work on Jose's personal goals of writing and improving his math skills.

“I have witnessed the incredible contribution a volunteer can make to help an individual who has a disability in simple yet profound ways. The amazing aspect is that they both evolve through this process in ways no one could begin to predict.” Amy Laboy, Director of Volunteer Services
